Un cielo y el otro
Passages, galeries - spaces that multiply and duplicate themselves. Passages which may unite two different worlds, sometimes distant and in some cases adjacent. Un cielo y el otro (One sky and the other) builds a new passage from the places in which Julio Cortazar's short story "El otro cielo" takes place and from the sentence that he quotes from Count of Lautreamont: "Estos ojos no te apartenecen..." (Those eyes don't belong to you...). That which we wait for is somewhere in those galeries - Galeria Güemes in Buenos Aires and Passage Vivienne in Paris - with their glass roofs, in the end it may be in those closer skies. Or not. Maybe it is in the other world, on the other side. In some way something may end there, where those shiny marble passages, mirrors and enigmatic drawings are emptied as in a dream. The music by Pascal Dusapin includes pieces for cello (Imago and Immer) and for piano (Etudes 6 and 7) and a new piece written for them for this show (Slackline). The dancers and musicians - some only on film, some only on stage, some on both - pass through those passages. They move between instruments, through music and dance. And between the present and a possible future.

D.T. « It is strange, one would think that a choreographer works with a composer, but I have established with Anssi the longest working relation that I have ever had. We always imagine together parts of a new work; who we could ask for music, which composers we could work with - in this case Pascal Dusapin, to whom Anssi introduced me. The first moment of thinking about the production is always with Anssi. Apart from being a performer he has a great musical and general culture. The collaboration with him is very fruitful and we take a lot of time before launching a new project. »
A.K. «To work with Diana is something very special. This is the fifth show that we do together and I am every time impressed about how Diana starts from the music, unlike many other choreographers who start from a story they want to tell. From the music she builds her choreography in which every gesture of the dancers is born from a musical gesture. Her dancers learn to know the music perfectly which makes everything very easy for the players, it gives us a freedom to modify little details, to move away from rigidity. Neither party is the only protagonist meaning that the interaction is constant, even with the videos which also trace a captivating counterpoint with the music. This all gives an impression that the music of Dusapin always had this choreography waiting for itself. »
DIANA THEOCHARIDIS - Choréographe
Née a Buenos Aires, Diana Theocharidis suivit la formation de l´Ecole de danse du Teatro San Martín. Parallèlement elle suivit des cours de musique et réalise des études de philosophie et de psychanalyse à l´Université de Buenos Aires. Elle continua sa formation en danse en France et en Italie, où elle réalisa des stages avec Alwin Nikolais, Carolyn Carlson, Malou Airaudo, et Elsa Piperno, entre autres. Elle fut invitée en tant que chorégraphe à suivre un stage de formation à l´ IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (Paris).
Son travail est étroitement lié à la musique contemporaine et aussi au dialogue entre la danse contemporaine avec d´autres écritures artistiques. Elle a collaboré avec des compositeurs comme Giacinto Scelsi, Mauricio Kagel, Martín Matalon, Pablo Ortiz, et avec divers solistes et ensembles instrumentaux: Antidogma Musica (Turin), Ars Nova (France), Grupo Estudio Contemporáneo, Orquesta de Cámara Mayo, Buenos Aires Sonora, Compañía Oblicua (Buenos Aires), et avec des musiciens solistes tels que Anssi Karttunen.
Avec sa compagnie, elle présenta ses pièces en Argentine, au Chili, Brésil, Vénézuela, Méxique, en Italie, Finlande, Pologne et France et elle a été invitée à des divers festivals internationaux, comme le Festival di Musica Antica e Contemporanea (Torino-Saluzzo), Rassegna di Danza Contemporanea e Nuove Tendenze (Roma), Congreso Latinoamericano de Danza (Caracas), Festival de Danza Independiente (Santiago de Chile), Buenos Aires en Porto Alegre, Festival Internacional de Teatro de Buenos Aires, Festival Latinoamericano de Danza Contemporánea (México), Festival de l´Imaginaire (Paris), Festival d´Île- de France, Tandem Paris-Buenos Aires, Festival Musica Nova Helsinki.
Diana Theocharidis a été convoquée comme chorégraphe par le Ballet Contemporáneo du Teatro San Martín de Buenos Aires pour monter Dedalus, avec musique de Martin Matalon et Intemperie, avec musique de Pablo Ortiz. Elle a créé aussi le Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps sur la musique d´Olivier Messiaen dans ce même thèâtre. Au Teatro Colon à Buenos Aires, elle a signé les creátions de plusieurs pièces chorégraphiques: Sul Cominciare, sul finire et Trazas sobre trazas, avec musique de Matalon, et Transcripción, avec musique de Kaija Saariaho et Pablo Ortiz. Cette pièce a été reprise à Paris au Cent-Quatre. Récement, elle présenta à l´Opéra National de Finlande son spectacle Cifra 3 pièce pour trois danseurs et quatre musiciens sur musique de Pascal Dusapin, Kaija Saariaho, Pablo Ortiz et Vasco Mendonça, commande du Festival Musica Nova de Helsinki et Un malambo, à Paris, dans le cadre du festival de l´Imaginaire.
Son travail artistique se développe aussi dans le terrain de l´opéra. en travaillant comme chorégraphe dans des théâtres tels que Teatro San Carlo (Naples), Opera National de Croatie (Zagreb), Théâtre National de Croatie (Rijeka), Opera Krakowska (Cracovie), Teatr Wielki (Poznan), au Kielecki Teatr Tanca (Kielce). Palacio Euskalduna (Bilbao), Olavshallen (Trondheim), Megaro Moussikis (Thessaloniki), Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires), Teatro Argentino (La Plata).
Elle réalisa les chorégraphies de Mahagonny, Didon et Enée, Bomarzo, Mort à Venise, La Traviata, La Flûte Enchantée, La Cenerentola, Eugene Onegin, Carmen. Roi Roger, Il Prigionero, Volo di Notte.
Elle a collaboré avec des metteurs en scène tels que Jerôme Savary, Alfredo Arias, Sergio Renan, Michal Znaniecki et Eric Vigié. Elle fit la mise en scène de plusieurs spectacles de théâtre musical comme, Variété de Mauricio Kagel au Teatro Colón, La Rosa, avec musique de Martin Matalon, créée à Paris au Conservatoire Supérieur d´Art Dramatique dans le cadre du Festival d´Île-de-France et du Tandem Paris-Buenos Aires et puis en tournée en France à L´Arsenal de Metz, au TAP de Poitiers, entre d´autres théâtres et Trazas sobre Trazas, aussi en collaboration avec Ars Nova au Teatro Colon. De même elle réalisa les mises en scène des opéras baroques: Le bourgeois gentilhomme, Orphée et Eurydice et Castor et Pollux avec la Companía de las Luces au Collège National et au Planétarium de Buenos Aires.
Diana Theocharidis a dirigé le Centre d´Experimentation Teatro Colón entre 2003 et 2007, la Compagnie de danse de l´Instituto Universitario Nacional del Arte (IUNA), entre 2002 et 2003. Elle est membre du directoire du Fondo Nacional de las Artes en Argentine.
Depuis 2016 Diana Theocharidis dirige la programmation de Teatro de la Ribera à Buenos Aires. Elle a été nommé Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres 2016.

The Argentinian choreographer Diana Theocharidis and Anssi Karttunen have collaborated since 2003 in 5 productions. These have been seen in Buenos Aires, La Plata, Paris and Helsinki.
Their latest collaboration Un cielo y el otro, was premiered in October 2016 at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires. The music for Un cielo y el otro includes pieces for cello solo and piano solo by Pascal Dusapin and the world premiere of a piece for cello and piano, Slackline. Anssi Karttunen is joined by the pianist Nicolas Hodges and dancers Alina Marinelli and Andrés Rosso.
